    question for Jason/OG --

I see there is a nice shiny new refactored xPDO out on github that contains sqlite. Very nice! great work refactoring.

I was wondering what the status is of those versions, and how stable/finished they are? I also see a xPDO-core lib that also contains the sqlite refactoring.

Care to comment on the differences/status/stability of each of those versions? (or just point to me to a doc somewhere that has the info)

Ive been looking forward to this so I can add some MS drivers into xPDO myself.

    tnx, dave

ATM, the sqlite driver is only partially completed and honestly needs a lot of testing and vetting (as well as some support for actually creating indices on the tables). This should change fairly quickly as we begin porting and testing MODx Revolution for additional drivers.

The xpdo-core is just an extraction of the xpdo directory within the repository that is separated so it can easily be merged into the revolution repository (or other applications) without the need to include the build and test folders (using subtree merge technique). This version of xPDO will likely be included in MODx 2.0.1 (due shortly) and once I add the index support for sqlite we’ll put an official xPDO release together.

If you are interested in working on a pdo_mssql driver for xPDO, please feel free to fork the main xpdo repository and we can collaborate as needed.

tnx, Jason. great work on it. In the next few weeks I’ll start mucking about with ms drivers.

Mostly I have clients with a slew of ms access databases that I would like to hook xPDO into first, so im probably more interested in access than mssql at the moment....

....however this single pdo driver, pdo_oledb ( http://wapache.sourceforge.net/oledb.htm ), should handle both mssql & access, with only slight diffs in the connect strings if it works according to docs. (at least Im hoping that driver is pretty well implemented -- I haven’t tested yet, just skimmed dox on it, and it’s a bit ’long in the tooth’ from 2008ish.)

We’ll see how that oledb driver goes in some quick, dirty unit tests, first. My fingers are crossed because I have had bad luck in the past with ODBC drivers + ms databases and accessing db metadata. (i.e., for schema or table generation code)

BTW, Github is nice. Anyone can easily see all the xPDO diffs youve checked in, in your mods for sqllite: http://github.com/modxcms/xpdo/commits/ .....

....which provides a great head start on coding another xPDO (oledb) driver.
