Hi Everyone
I am currently using a Linux server for a site I am developing in ModX Evo.
Due to reasons beyond my control I have to move my site to a Windows server on a different hosting package. I will however still be able to use the same database I am using with the current installation.
Is there any way I can do a fresh install of ModX on the new server and then point to the old database and keep my database intact? I am worried that if I do a fresh install and point it to the same database it would overwrite the info on database.
On a side note I would really like to move over to Revolution at the same time but I reckon this would be asking for trouble...
Cheers
Jack
edit your config to reflect the old database url then instead of new choose update. make shure that you change all paths in the database to the new situation.
Thanks for the reassurance Dimmy!
I have moved all the files and edited the config file to point to the database (did’nt need to change anything as the db is not localhost but an IP address) and when I go to the install folder to setup the installation I get a 404 - when you say ’change all paths in the database’ how would you do this?
did you not remove the install folder?
it should work
when you go in phpmyadmin there you can search for oldpath and edit it there.
I am glad someone asked this question because i was in a similar situation and may have to move my site to a different server from linux to windows. I will try these steps and if nothing works, i may still need help!
Thanks
Hi again
still not having any luck here. I get a 404 when I go to the install folder as well - are you saying I should remove the install folder? if so how would I choose the update modx option?
Also I dont know much about PHPMyAdmin but when I go in there I can search for the word path but I am not sure what to do after that...
Thanks
Jack

On the original installation you most likely removed the install folder. Make sure your new installation does have the install folder.
Are you sure that the URL is pointing to the new server? Have the DNS records for the domain been changed?
