Hi I used a bit of Evolution before but decided to wait till Revolution’s release. I installed Revolution today and had some quick glances. It looked like a much more streamlined system than evolution and I really like the concepts in Modx. But before I invest more time on it, I just wanted to ask a couple of quick questions:
1. Blog system: the basic blog guide in the documentation still requires bloggers log into the Manager panel, which is really way too complicated for most ordinary bloggers, who just want to have a simple page with a few fields for content input. I know I can probably create a custom after-login page and blog posting page for ordinary users but would like to get confirmation from more experienced Modx users. Are there already add-on’s that do that so I don’t have reinvent the wheel?
2. User system: kind of related to the last question. I don’t really want an ordinary user see the stuff in the Manager panel. I just want them to see and manage their own works (in various views perhaps). Again do I need to write my own user register/login system or is there add-ons? And would the add-on’s user data integrated with the Modx’s own user system (so the admin could use the Manager panel to manage users etc.)?
3. Social apps: to let users build their own friends and groups, are there good add-on’s out there?
Since all my questions have something to do add-on’s, another thought on add-ons: the current page of add-on’s is difficult to use and judge. There is no search feature, and the description is usually too terse to know what it does. A link to a site that actually uses the add-on would be really helpful. A rating/comment feature under each add-on would be really nice too.
Thanks and have a good one,
Alan
