I’m looking to find a new UK based host for my dads company and want to install modx to run his website.
Just looking at one host says the following.
However, please note that you cannot install applications that require root or administrator-level access.
I assume modx does not require this kind of access?
Thanks

I would imagine thats fine so long as you can change file permissions in your ftp. Might be worth checking with their support to see if you can install CMS systems before you commit.
p.s I would recommend Site5 if they don’t, runs modx like a charm and their support is really good.

+1. I’ve heard nothing but good things about OneSmartHost and the operator is a member of the forums here.

Thanks, i’ll have a look at both of them.
Basically all i want is a web host based in the uk for SEO reasons that runs modx and gives room for expansion when i need to add a few more things to the site.
Whilst keeping the costs down as it’s only a very small company.
If you want another option check out SkyToaster (
http://www.skytoaster.com/services/hosting/the-hosting-plans). We work with MODX extensively so if you have any issues we are happy to help (more so than Site5 support would be able to do so). OneSmartHost is also a great option, as others have noted he is very helpful and knows his stuff well.

Thanks everyone, need to run past my dad their budget.
With regards to database size of modx, i see some hosts only give you max 150mb.
Would you ever go over this with modx ?
I think most sites run about 1-5MB, if you have a lot of pages (say ~3k) then you will be looking at closer to 30MB.
