Wysiwyg editor - needed?

I have got some time on my hands and I am thinking about building a wysiwyg editor for MODx. An alternative for TinyMCE. Something that

- is truly wysiwyg
- doesn’t do unexpected things (like wrapping everything in a paragraph tag) to confuse users
- has a mechanism for uploading pics that’s a little less cumbersome than the present one
- has serverside resizing of pics

I’m thinking such a plugin would make MODx more attractive to regular, non-technical users. I’m also thinking it will be a ton of work so I’d like to gauge your opinion first. What do you think? Would this be worth the effort? Would you use it? Are you aware of any developers that are trying/have tried something similar?

Before going to the trouble, you might check out the Aloha editor. Other users have said good things about it.

There is also the It’s All Text FireFox add-on, which some people swear by.

That said, TinyMCE does definitely bite.

I’ll be more than happy to test whatever editor you come up with.
