Poll component for MODx Revolution

Hi all,

Did anyone have already experiance with creating a poll in Revolution?

If not; does anyone has tips and ideas about a component like this; I would like to create one if not already exist (i couldn’t found it)

I looked for this a long time ago, and I didn’t find any, either. But here’s one thought... I did run across a variety of non-MODx standalone polling scripts, some of which can be pulled into a PHP site using includes. So if I were looking for that right now, that’s what I would try. Then you could do your includes via a snippet or module (or maybe a programmer might have a different or better suggestion).

I am a programmer and I started with an basic implementation of the poll functionality. What I thought it will be usefull is;

You can create categories and put questions inside a single category. This is for a multiple poll support on the website. You can create multiple polls per category and per question you could set a publish and unpublish date (for some automate publishments). For each question you can add answers, as many as you want. Each answer has a vote-counting and you must be able to sort the answers.

Behind the code is a log of all votes, so visitors kan vote just for once, per poll.

In the future I will make it possible to choose the times-to-vote per question.. and even more if good suggestions are posted

For the front-end, snippets I am planning to make where [[!PollsLatest? &category=`1`]], [[!Polls? &category=`1`]] and [[!PollsResults? &id=`1`]]

Some explanation:

Polls:
This one generates a list with polls in that category and by clicking on a poll you can vote (if you not already have done). When category not specified, all polls are in.

PollLatest:
By example usage for the homepage. You can show the latest poll in a certain category. When no category specified, all polls are in.

PollsResults:
This one shows the results of the given question id.

at first thanks for your great work. I need a pool tool for my website too and so I am revising your tool.

New functions:

Create a poll -> this poll can have one or more questions

-> every question can have one or more answers
-> every question has a specified answer type (e.g. radiobutton, textfield, checkbox and textarea)

Every poll can have a category. -> In the front end you can set the snippets like this

[[Poll &id=`3` &latest=`true`]] -> get the Poll with id 3 or the latest poll
[[PollList &start=`0` &limit=`6`]] -> Lists all Polls from the id=`0` till 6 elements.

I will upload my new functions in the next few days...

Sounds great!
If you want to integrate your snippets with the Polls component; please start your snippets with ’Polls’. This is to know for sure that snippets belongs to the Polls component... and do you using Github?

First of all, thanks for your work, I’ll try it as soon as I find time =)...a nice polls module under Evolution was easyPoll found at http://bummzack.ch/easypoll/ or in the extras section. Maybe there was some functionality built in which isn’t yet built in the new module? Something like an archive-function for old polls to just display their results? Or templating the whole look of the poll (possibly already coded??)?

I don’t know the evolution version. I create a poll component for the needs I have. In the future I hope a lot of new features will be added.

Templating the poll is possible, only I found a little bug in calling the templates, this one is fixed but not yet released.

In the attachment are some previews, would be happy to publish it 2010 ;-).

(The first version of my poll is german, maybe english too )

Today I want to finish it with a result snippet integrating some jquery Functions (Piecharts ...)
@bertoost: I have changed few things in the database and in the code so it isn’t compatible. I will upload my poll as a .zip file and you can test it.
