Help needed to troubleshoot why my site is performing so slowly

I would appreciate any help or suggestions to attempt to speed up the site I have developed in Revolution 2.0.8
Right now, I don’t know if I have poor hosting, or the issue is with my poor coding.

The site is

And pages with getPages and/or getResources perform much worse than others, but overall even relatively simple pages take more than 5 seconds of "waiting" in the initial load (via firebug) and between 16 - 30 seconds to load a page.
This page, for example, http://astrabridal.123abc.co.nz/view-by-designer.html just took 17 seconds to load, of which 14 seconds was waiting. See attachment.

You may want to upgrade your MySQL install, it’s not supported (http://modx.com/revolution/developer/requirements/).

Load times for me in Florida are reasonable at 4-9 seconds. Reducing CSS/JS will help speed things up some.

Should give you a start at least.

Thanks Patrick. I have the site currently on shared hosting, but I am looking at other options now so I can get the latest version of MySQL installed.
Tomorrow i’ll be working on reducing down my CSS and reading up further on caching, specifically HTTP headers.

It might load a little faster if there were no errors - my browser complained about four (see below) - my editor found 42 on the home page, mostly from declaring it to be 4.01 Transitional and then using xhtml

But the home page weighs in at about 1.2MB - over 500k each for images and scripts and so it will take some time to load!
