Strange image loading behaviour... using gallery and galleryitem

Hi

I am nearing the completion of my first major Modx project, and must say it’s been a good experience, and will lighten the load of the maintenance effort required to support the site.

I am however, having a few intermittent issues with the behaviour of the Gallery functionality, and GalleryItem...

If I navigate through the site hierachy, and end up at a product detail page, sometimes the images in the gallery do not load properly (uses gallery and gallerific plugin)... Likewise the "Other products in the range:" images at the bottom of the page do no always load properly either.

I have caching switch on, and normally after a full refresh of the page, all the images show... But still then, after subsequent navs to the same page the images will sometimes not appear.

I have seen this problem in firefox and IE so it seems to be a problem pulling the page together, rather than a browser specific issue...

To recreate...

Please help! Is there a setting that I am missing?

I would really appreciate your help with the above issue...

Not sure if it is an issue with Gallery, or certain network connections... But I am getting erratic behaviour with my Gallery generated images...

Problems appear to be worse when using Firefox 3.6.16

I think this may have something to do with multiple calls to GalleryItem on one page...

Some pages call GalleryItem 10 or more times, to construct the page.

Would be great if someone could look and at least confirm the problem, and make some suggestions to how to resolve (in IE, on some of the images that don’t display correctly, i can right click and select show picture, and the image will then display!)

problem confirmed - that is there are two images missing - no idea why. If you click the second missing one that page does not work either... possibly a clue, maybe not.

I was going to suggest the w3c validator - but it comes up with tons of errors (well 211) might not be too helpful for figuring out this problem quickly.

Safari says there are errors on the page - maybe fix these first:

Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type text/html.
drop_down_menu.jsResource interpreted as script but transferred with MIME type text/html.

the first three are warnings - last pair are errors

Thank you for your response... I have just taken a look through the site using the Tamper Data add-on for firefox and also noticed some strange URLs being generated...

I had a dodgy .htaccess file in the root of my site which was not working as i anticipated...

I have now changed this and the dodgy paths (/home/home/home...) have now been fixed...

Still having the slightly odd behaviour of some images being missing... This seems to be apparent mainly when I am on my secure work network... but only intermittently and only to certain images!

I think I have got to the bottom of the problem here...

I think the problem is with my 1and1 hosting package (1and1 Business)... It limits the number of parallel processes I can run at one time. I think the limit is between 10 and 16 (I am awaiting confirmation)...

One some pages I use GalleryItem quite heavily. Up to 20 times on some pages to generate many thumbnails. the problem is that each time GalleryItem / PhpThumb returns an image, it uses a new process...


When I reach the limit, I get errors in the logs like...



Has anyone had a similar problem to this before? I am considering upping the hosting package to one that offers unlimited parallel processes, as I feel this carries a better cost benefit than rewriting the way my images are managed and presented throughout the site.

Your thoughts here would be much appreciated...
