Some feedback on Revolution (2.0.8)

Hey Chaps,

Have been using Revolution now in production for a few months now, 100% unsure about which forum to post feedback in... so I’ll just plonk it here. We’re on 2.08, and I just saw today that you’re about to go to 2.1 - so congratulations to the devs

There are only a few things we would like to see - and I’m sure some of these have been covered off in other threads, but just in case :


First one is a weird one : When you create a category, it is possible to have a child category as well, so :

- Example_A
|- Web_Forms
|- Navigation

Which makes perfect sense, and you can see that would be useful. However, you can’t then have this :

- Example_B
|- Web_Forms
|- Navigation

Which contain the same sub categories by the same name. While on the surface it would be obvious that you shouldn’t be able to create another category with the same name... it becomes slightly reduntant being able to make a parent -> child category, when you can’t. Otherwise, you might as well make the category names like so :

- Example_A_Web_Forms
- Example_A_Navigation
- Example_B_Web_Forms
- Example_B_Navigation

And just have it as a flat structure. Would really like to have the ability to keep the parent -> child categories, but allow categories to share the same names.


The next thing is general manager performance - and this is definately getting better with every release. Would like see, in an ideal situation, zero full page refreshes of the manager. There really shouldn’t be a need reinit extJS (should there?).


Lastly - this is more a selfish request - any chance for a quick tutorial on creating a new modResource - integrated into the mgr? The ’Developing an Extra in MODX Revolution’ by Shaun was quite excellent - and we managed to rip out a form to db module in a few days.

Great suggestion! I also want to add to this in that categories are only accessible if they are the first level of child categories.

So parent -> child category is accessible, however, if I create a new category that is a child of an existing child category, i.e. parent -> 1st level child -> 2nd level child, the 2nd level child categories only display in the categories tree (at the bottom of the element tree) and when I try to assign an element to this 2nd level child category this category does not display in the category drop down list.

So when you add the ability to have child categories that contain the same name you can also add the ability to have 2nd level child categories
