ACCESS CONTROLS: How to hide a template yet still show assigned TV's?

How can I hide a template from other manager users while still giving them the ability to edit resource TV’s that use this template???

Hide the template:
Using this amazing permissions system, in modx revo 2.0.8-pl, I’m hiding a template from a user group (End Users) by adding the template to a special category (Admin Only) and then adding this category to my Administrator User Group ’Element Category Access’ tab with the ’Element’ Access Policy. This works great, in that it hides the template from the template drop-down list when creating/updating new resources which is exactly what I want. (*End Users are setup with ’Content Editor’ ACL so the ’Resources’ tab is the only tab in tree-menu).

--HOWEVER--
I still want my End Users to have access to the Template Variables that are assigned to this template. Right now, when an End User edits the resource that uses my hidden template the TV’s are gone, as in no display. Adding the TV’s to a Resource Group which my End Users have access to does not work. So am I crazy? Did I stay up too late again and forgot how to think properly??? Or is this just not possible???

I’m not the best MODx-Pro here, but I think this is because you restricted access only to your "Admins"-Usergroup, therefor "normal" User do not have access to the TVs.
But if I got you right, you could choose another way to hide the template from your "users"-group and still give them access to the TVs: Use Form-Customization.

Security > Form Customization > Create New Profile > Create New Set > there you hide the template-field.
So it’s still there and your "users"-usergroup can use it, but they don’t see the template-dropdown.

Thanks Stetus, this will work for me as a work around since it will hide the entire template drop down menu. Ideally, I want my end user to still see the template drop down list and be able to select between different templates... but only the templates they have access to.

If I disable the template drop down it will work for which ever template I set the FC profile to. However, if my user has access to another resource that displays the template drop down list they will still see all of the templates... there is no way for me to hide a template from that drop down list without also removing the associated TV’s.

So in the first resource, the one with the hidden template drop down list, the users have access to the TV’s and they can’t access the template drop down list... but as soon as they go to another resource that has the template list enabled the template that I don’t want them to have access to still shows. So I will be required to hide the template drop down list for all templates... and then I’ll have to create an extra TV for a user to still be able to choose the type of template they want. Seems redundant but I’ll give it a try and report back how it worked.

I’m not sure if this is possible with MODx at this time, but it would be a cool feature request.
