When I assign a user group an Element Category Access policy, with the "Element" access policy, I cannot see the "Edit" or "Quick Update" options in the right-click menu for elements in that category. I can edit the standard way by clicking on the element in the tree... but there is no way to ’Quick Update’. What permissions are needed for this?
Have you added yourself to each user group with a role of admin Super User?
If you don’t do that, connecting the elements in a category to a user group protects them from everyone not in the group -- you included.

I have this element category policy attached to my Administrator group and I’m experiencing this even when using the main administrator account.
I understand what you’re asking about - but when you don’t give the admin user access, the effect is that you can’t see those elements at all. In this scenario I’m seeing the elements, I just can’t do a right-click ’Edit’ or ’Quick Update’.
My suspicion is that the permission(s) that control those abilities are not properly designated as element permissions - so they can’t affect an element policy, and those functions are simply lost when an element policy is in place (lost on the affected element category, that is). That’s just a hunch though - I’ll try to do some more research today.
It’s starting to sound like a bug, assuming that the admin user has all permissions in the Administrator Context Access ACL policy and all permissions in the element policy in the Element Category Access ACL policy.
If you can confirm that, please file it as a bug.
