System settings not displayed - Revolution 2.0.8-pl

I did clean install of Revolution 2.0.8-pl. When I go to System->System settings I see no default settings and there is also "No data to display" note. I also checked (with firebug) background request that page does and return data is empty.

I checked table modx_system_Settings and there is data in it.

Sounds like maybe a file was corrupted on FTP upload, or you downloaded the advanced package of 2.0.8-pl within the first 24hrs of release (see http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,61406.msg349428.html#msg349428 for details on the latter).

I downloaded it today from "http://modx.com/download/direct/modx-2.0.8-pl.zip" using wget on server.

I downloaded it again now and made another clean install and problem is still there.

I checked core/cache/logs/error.log:


So something is wrong with DB structure that was created by installation.

I checked also my core/cache/logs/install.config.2011-03-15T00:10:03 and it’s full of lines like

My configuration:
Server version: Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu)
PHP 5.3.2 w pdo_mysql
MySQL 5.1.41

I checked my php-error.log and saw some class missing and undefined class constants. I’ve googled error for specific class and found thread that stated that error is caused by APC php extension. Thread also noted that error was fixed but it doesn’t look so (in Revolution 2.0.8-pl)

I’ve disabled APC and errors were gone - from logs (php-error.log and core/cache/logs/error.log).
System settings were still not displayed - even after clearing cache.

So I did another clean reinstall - this time with APC disabled. No errors only core/cache/logs/install.config.2011-03-15T13:45:25 still contains those "Could not install files from" messages.
System settings are now shown in administration (finally). Now I enabled back APC extension and system settings are still displayed. I’m wondering what kind of effect will it have later.

Conclusion: Something goes wrong during installation of modx with APC php extension enabled.

You definitely don’t want to disable APC opcode caching. That improves performance significantly and any issues with it have long since been addressed in MODX, at least in the latest releases of PHP and APC.

But it still sounds like you are having trouble getting all the files up to the server or something...

I think all files are there (at least those that are in the zip package) - unless you mean files that are created during installation or downloaded during installation - if there are any like that?

As I said when I ran installation with APC disabled it started working. I’ll make another install with APC enabled just to double check that.

Well I couldn’t reproduce it. Worked even with APC enabled during installation.
