I created a package from one of my websites (modxperience.com) and
now I am trying to "import" it / add it via the PM system on a fresh
    install 2.0.8.

I placed the zip file with the created package in the core/packages directory
where there was another package already, so the dir looks like this:
    - core.transport.zip
    - mercobasic.transport.zip

I go to the manager and click "Add a new package"
    Select the look locally
    and something happens...

A core directory is created with what’s in the core.transport.zip and that is it.

I even deleted core.transport.zip and went through the process again and nothing,
my package is not being "imported" into the new install...

    Am I doing something wrong?
What do I need to make it work?

    TIA

Are you sure that directory is writable by PHP?
Are there any errors in core/cache/logs/error.log?

How did you create this package?

Are you sure that directory is writable by PHP?
Are there any errors in core/cache/logs/error.log?

How did you create this package?

        Yes, it is writable.
        I will check.
I created it with PackMan that I downloaded a while ago (2.0.2 or so...)

This is what I am going to do (as I upgraded a lot of the Packages/Extras/Add-ons in the
        last couple of days).

I am going to use the latest PackMan 1.5.4 I think it is... and see if it works.

        Some suggestions:

        1) It is a pain to select the chunks one by one. It would be wonderful a UI like batcher, where all appeared and we would click on the box and add them like that.

        2) Once we have saved one chunk, the chunk still appears in the selectable drop-down menu, will be nice if it did not appeared if it was already selected.

        Thanks... I will report back...

With the new version of PackMan everything worked fine...

Shaun, kudos and thanks for the profile feature! it is a God sent to be
able to save the profile and modify it if necessary.

Also the ability to export some directories is awesome!!
I use a css framework and "external" file templates and
now I can just export them to the new websites with the
          package. Thanks!!!!!!!

          Question:
          - if the profile is modified, we have to change the version number or
can we keep the same name, release and version and the new updated package
will overwrite everything when it is installed?

          More suggestions:

          3) When the newly imported package is installed, it creates a category
with the package name and most of the elements are placed under that category.
It would be great to avoid creating/using the package name category

          4) Keep the "source" categories and put the appropriate elements in them, thus
recreating exactly the elements tree of the "source" in the "target".

          5) My other suggestions and wishes are already in the RoadMap

Again, thanks a lot for this functionality!!!

I guess I got happy too soon!

            All the elements show appropriately.
All the files show OK where they should go.

The packages/extras were not imported, the only package present
is the mercoBasic package (my package). The PackMan profile shows
            9 add-ons.

Do the add-ons in the profile need to be current versions of the same?
or do those versions need to be present in the filesystem at the time of
            creating the export?

My package was created with previous versions of the add-ons...

              Well, continuing with my monologue!

              Answering my own questions:

Do the add-ons in the profile need to be current versions of the same?
or do those versions need to be present in the filesystem at the time of
              creating the export?

Yes, the add-ons on the profile have to be the current versions and they have
to reside on the filesystem (core/packages and core/components)

So the optimal process should be:

              1) Upgrade your MODX to the latest version
              2) Upgrade your add-ons/extras to the latest version
I use only pl’s where possible unless the rc has needed functionality.
              3) Upgrade your PackMan Profile to the latest add-on versions OR create new profile
This has to be done by adding the new versions one by one and deleting the
old version one by one too.
              4) Change the version and/or release of your PackMan Profile. You could also change the name.
              5) Save PackMan Profile
              6) Export Transport Package and save it in your machine
              7) Place the xxxxxx.transport.zip in the core/package directory of your new install
8 ) Add new package in PM of your new install
              9) Install the package

I am still having some problems so I will update the above as I go...

                Problems I am still having:

when Installing the transport package from PackMan,
the app does not stop on the license agreement page,
                or the readme, etc.

Then the console appears and I get the following output
and it does not finish the install:

                Console running...

Workspace environment initiated, now installing package...
                Package found...now preparing to install.

The only thing not installed is simpleSearch, TinyMCE and Wayfinder which all are listed after phpthumboutputfilter which seems to have a problem being installed.

                  1. You should set the System Setting ’archive_with’ to 1.
                  2. There’s a known bug in PackMan that prevents packaging of readme/license files.

Done, but same result, it just goes a little further.
Its all the same but this much more info after the
                    second red paragraph above:

Skipping vehicle object of class modSystemSetting (data object exists and cannot be upgraded); criteria: Array ( [key] => recaptcha.public_key )
                    Setting file permissions for phpMyBackupPro

                    - Still no SimpleSearch or TinyMCE (somehow Wayfinder appears now!)
                    - Still no packages in the grid but mercoBasic (my transport)

                    Any other help?

You might take a look at the GetMyComponent package. It’s designed to build a full package for you and you can turn off any parts that you’re not using. There’s a tutorial for it here: http://bobsguides.com/mycomponent-tutorial.html.

It’s much more work to set up than PackMan, but I think it makes it easier to maintain the package over time.
