Managing resource numbers when moving a site

I’m working on moving a few sites from one Revo install to another, using Provisioner. One of the big problems I’m encountering is that a lot of internal linking was done within the resources, using the resource numbers from the original site. These numbers don’t work anymore of course, since the new resources were given new resource numbers dynamically using the normal auto-increment method. So... lots of broken links.

I don’t know very much about the restrictions of auto-incremented resource IDs. I’m wondering, in the abstract, whether it is possible to import a batch of resources and preserve their original IDs... and then set the auto-increment counter to n+1 where n is the highest ID value of the imported resources.

In a word, yes: the primary keys identifying each resource are extremely important. I’d say that you MUST always copy the related databases any time you copy ANY web application like MODx. The site and the database are inseparably linked: don’t ever separate them.
