Default path for image TV

The documentation for Template Variable Input Types (http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Template+Variable+Input+Types#TemplateVariableInputTypes-ResourceList) says

You can declare a default value file by specifying the path to the image.

It doesn’t explain how exactly you do this - I’ve tried entering all varieties of path (with / without start / trailing slash; full server path; relative to Modx root) into the Input Option Values field, but nothing seems to work.

Any clues?

That should be relative from the webroot...

I would do assets/images/defaultimage.png - if that doesn’t work let me know and I’ll triple check how I did this in a site I set up a while ago.

Looking at this with fresh eyes, I don’t think it’s designed to do what I want it to, which is:

I want to specify a default folder that this TV should open when a manager inserts a value. e.g. if I have a TV called "banner", I might want it to open by default to the folder "/assets/images/banners" and select a file from there.

I could do this with a dropdown TV, using a @DIRECTORY binding, but this prevents the manager from uploading a new image or previewing the ones that are there.

That’s not what default value does indeed.

You can change it in the system settings though (or make a user setting with the same name to override it on a user basis):
