    Hi there,

    I’m new to Modx (I’ve worked with HTML/CSS/PHP and other technologies etc like oScommerce etc for a few years) but I’ve decided to base a new project that I have on which is an ecommerce based shop selling designer furniture on Modx.

    My dilemma is I need this site live in the beginning of the new year and I do not know if I should focus on Evolution and FoxyCart as a solution or opt for Revolution and await the release of VisionCart that looks very promising but not yet release.

    My gut feeling is that I should go for Evolution as that is more mature and has more third party solutions available for it and probabily more knowledge/information available.

    Do any experienced modx users have an opinion on this?

    Cheers

      HI H,
      Well, I’ve just finished a re-vamp of two sites for a prominent magazine publisher here in NZ.
      After much head scratching and research for them (they need to sell merchandise, back issues and offer various subscriptions) the best bet was ...... Paypal (on Evo 1.04).

      An absolute breeze to set up, Paypal’s new merchant system offers all the facilities you need from a one off purchase to a packed shopping cart.
      The new subscriber section on the paypal account was a timely introduction for me grin grin grin.

      I just set up a text box TV for each page called ’paypal_button_code’- they can then generate the code in their paypal account, copy+paste - Job Done - up and running and more important - working.
      Cheers AL.

        Hi AL,

        Thanks for the response. Do you have a URL I can take a look at?

        Cheers

          My gut feeling says revolution.

          Then again it depends on your requirements...

          For a recent client, we built a minishop from scratch, existing of Ditto listing the products, a simple custom made shopping cart and "checkout" with eForm that (using a hook) stores data in the database and sends out an email with payment instructions. This was on Evo.

            OK sounds interesting do you have a URL of that so I can see the finished product?

              There’s not a lot to see, really. tongue

              It’s nothing more really than what I described... the products are being displayed from a parent resource. This is the Ditto tpl:
              <div class="shopitem">
                <div class="pic">
                   <img src="[+productimage+]" alt="[+productname+]" />
                </div>
                <div class="info">
                    <h2 class="title"><a href="[~[+id+]~]" title="[+productname+]">[+productname+]</a></h2>
                    <p>Prijs: [[minishop_formatprice? &price=`[+productprice+]`]]<br />
                    <a href="[~[+id+]~]" title="Meer informatie over [+productname+]">Meer informatie</a></p>
                    [[minishop_addtocartbutton? &id=`[+alias+]`]]
                </div>
              </div>

              The snippet minishop_addtocartbutton builds a button with a javascript event with the products’ alias as reference, which stores the product in jquery cookies... at this point I’m lost at how the thing really works (our programmer did the work on this shop).

              Then when the order form (basic eform) is submitted, a function is run which fetches the order and uses it to build the email, with a total amount mentioned and instructions on how to pay.

              As the minishop itself is not yet online, I can’t post a link to it. Plus I’m a lil’ hesistant as to post links to client sites.
