Property Sets without Assignment?

I installed the polls package and tried to create a property set (pollTpl) with settings for all the templates. I had then hoped to save time and space whenever I need to call the polls package at various places around the site: [[!PollsLatest@pollTpl]]. It seems to me like that is all I should have to do...

however...

I’m just figuring out that to use a property set with a snippet/chunk I have to edit that snippet/chunk and assign the property set to the snippet. Is there any particular reason for this behavior? It seems like an unnecessary step.

My other concern: now that I’ve assigned my property set, will I have to go in and reassign it every time the snippet/chunk/package gets updated?

Nope.

And you don’t have to do it that way. You can assign it in Tools -> Property Sets by right-clicking on the property set and selecting attach element to property set.

And, if you create the property set on the Properties tab of the element with Add Property Set button, the property set is automatically attached. That saves you from having to type in the properties except ones that are not in the default properties.

You probably know this, but to use a property set with an element, you also have to specify it in the tag:



If you don’t do that, the default properties (if any) will be used.
