Resource panel blank after installation; site also blank

I have seen this before, and I’m pretty sure it had something to do with file permissions - that is, the error was fixed by actually reducing the permissions of some directories. (Naturally I can’t remember which ones.)

After installing MODx 2.0.7 on my Debian Lenny box (PHP 5.3.3-7, MySQL 5.1.49, Apache 2.2.16), being careful to create/777 the directories required as per this documentation page, I have a blank screen on the front end and a mangled manager on the back - there is no resource pane and most of the topmenu items are dead.

I have a number of other MODx installations up to 2.0.4 on this same box and they have always worked fine.

Any ideas?

Update:
Just to make sure, I downloaded MODx 2.0.6-pl2 and tried installing it on the same server. Worked fine. Removed 2.0.7 and tried reinstalling it using precisely the same steps; same problem - resource panel MIA, controls not working.

Could this possibly be a bug in the new release?

Do you know what your memory_limit is set to (see PhpInfo())? 2.0.7 might require a little more memory to install.

Or, you could have a bad download of 2.0.7. It happens more often than you might think.

Bob, once again you have saved the day. It was apparently a bad download (should have thought of that myself I guess). I re-downloaded and reinstalled with no problem. Thanks a bunch!!!
