Hi all.
I’m trying to upgrade from 2.04 to 2.06 on a remote host (hosted by hostgator).
I ssh’d to my server and used wget to fetch the zipped archive of the 2.06 distribution. I unzipped the archive and then copied them over the same files in my vhosts root.
I then went to www.myhost/manager. I got the error message "Configuration warning: Installer still present". I’m guessing that this is fine, and to be expected.
I then attempted to navigate to www.myhost/manager/setup/
Instead of loading that page my browser dumped me back to the index page of the frontend of my site. This is what I’d expect if a resource isn’t available.
From the shell I could see that the setup dir was present. Navigating to www.myhost/manager/setup/index.php also dumped me back to the frontpage of the site.
From the shell I just changed the perms recursively for the setup directory to 777. I tried to navigate to the setup dir again. Again I was dumped out to the frontpage.
What’s happening here?
How can I continue to upgrade modx?
Ah - silly me. The setup dir is indeed directly under the root.
However, I still get the same results from navigating to either myhost.com/setup or myhost.com/setup/index.php.
I’m still being dumped out to the frontpage.
Try renaming the .htaccess in the root directory.

I’m afraid I didn’t get to the root of the problem.
It seemed to be less effort to simply reinstall modx from scratch, so I went and did that.
