Did you have rewrite base set to / ?
Do you have a <base href="[[++site_url]]" tag in the <head> of your template?
Yes on the base href, and it was an out-of-the-box modX .htaccess file, with RewriteBase set to /. Which is the odd thing, should not have needed the / at the RewriteRule. I tried removing RewriteBase in .htaccess, all kinds of stuff.
The deciding factor was taking the entire thing out of modX and running it as a standalone. That is, copy/paste all snippets as an include and using a view source as a template, like
<html>
.....
include (’dbconn.php’); // created my own standard connection to DB for testing
include(’snippet1.php’);
<more html>
.....
include(’snippet2.html’);
<more html>
...etc.
And it was still broken, kept getting redirect headers. I knew at that point it had to be something with the server. Weird. Maybe it just doesn’t have index.php in the indexing configuration, though not sure where to find it in the Dreamhost CP (new to D.H.)
