Revo does the same: it sets all duplicates to unpublished. Ideally I think there would be a checkbox indicating whether to maintain the publish status of the originals.

TBH, I’m pretty sure I requested that a long time ago and I thought it had been implemented.

At some point the behavior did change to preserving the published status, but this was a big problem, at least for me. I expect everything to be unpublished when I duplicate a tree in my site. I can (sort of) see the need for preserving the existing published status, but should definitely be an option that is turned off by default IMO.
If you’re going to add an option, you might as well add ones for all the other boolean resource fields -- hidemenu, richtext, etc., although I’m thinking it might better be done with a plugin that let you set all of them as properties.
In NewsPublisher, all the boolean resource fields have a corresponding list properties with possible values of : Yes, No, Parent, and System Default. Maybe we should just have plugins for OnDuplicate and OnCreate with properties like that.
