per user or per user group system settings

I seem to recall reading a while back that it is possible to override system settings at the per-user level. I wasn’t able to find anything on this in the documentation, so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

Also, is it possible to override settings at the user group level?

User settings are on the Settings tab when you update the user. If you create one with the same name (key actually) as a system or context setting, it will override any other settings.

I don’t think user groups have any settings at present and I don’t see any place to put them in the usergroup-related DB tables.

I think the concept of "user group settings", or at least "user settings that are determined by membership/role in a user group" could have a definite role in Revo Core. I posted an item earlier today on user settings for TinyMCE that kind of presses this issue. I’m not sure how to start the discussion on this as a formal feature request, since it is a tad conceptually confusing.

It is confusing. Policies could be considered user-group settings and either a whole group or individual members can be tied to any policy in a Resource Group Access ACL entry. Remember too that you can add as many new custom permissions as you like to a policy template, so they could be used as "settings" as long as a boolean value will do -- they can be read with hasPermission().

Group settings are on the roadmap, but how they will be implemented is far from decided. There are a lot of implications and challenges to deal with here, such as which group memberships take precedence, subgroup inheritance of settings and permissions, etc.
