[RESOLVED] MODx Documentation log-in

Revo 206 has log-in to MODx documentation.

Which login?

Tried both my Revo login & forum.

Do you mean the link to the documentation under the Support menu? It’s not supposed to require a login at all. It does that to me sometime and the login page just keeps reloading. I have no idea why.

Login to the official documentation is restricted to MODx Contributors only.

The information *is* free for all to view.

Editing it, however, is not; hence why we restrict login to MODx Contributors only. This also prevents random people from erasing official documentation.

You can (or should be able to) read the docs just fine without being logged in, but they’re not open for everyone to edit. We have enough of a problem battling spammers on the forums to make it a truly open wiki.

I think you’re misunderstanding each other,
I guess he was talking about the situation when searching Google or clicking links in old posts, e.g.

instead of using the ’new’ rtfm correct address

it’s causing a redirection to the log in page supposing you want to log and edit the documentation.
but the average visitor doesn’t know about this mixup and he’s sure the documentation is restricted for view for registered users.

okay, i’m cool with that. i don’t want to edit any documentation. just wanna see it .. so i dont have to ask so many questions here.

there was a link on the original page that loads after the initial install called "I’ve installed, now what?"

the link i clicked was titled "* Designer’s Guide"

how might i find that?

cant seem to locate it. see nothing that says "Designer’s guide" here:

i mean, i saw the page for a nano-sec, before the login screen popped up.

i actually copied the page into a handy text editor, but the links didn’t come thru. the rest of the links are:

have to admit .. the idea of restricting info sounds .. icky.

you guys have a special thing here. i’m very careful about where and what i spend my time learning. like you, i want to maximize my return in terms of digital & creative power .. cuz there’s a lot of cool technology out there, and i feel revo will do that for me. it’s no small investment.

Let’s be clear. This is a bug in the forwarding system for modxcms.com that only happens with some versions of FireFox.

The documentation for MODx is intended to be free and available to everyone without *any* login at all.

I’ve seen this problem on and off for quite a while (and reported it once or twice, but it’s been difficult to reproduce).

I’ve finally been able to reproduce it like this:

If you do a Google search for: Modx Revolution Documentation Login (looking for the docs on the Login package), the top link points here:

http://modxcms.com/develop/267.html

In any other browser, when you click on that link, you’re directed to the documentation home page.

But in FF 3.6.12, you get redirected to this link:

http://rtfm.modx.com/login.action?os_destination=%2Fdisplay%2Frevolution%2FMODx%2BRevolution

which continually shows the login page, then redirects to the original page which shows briefly, then redirects you to the login page -- ad infinitum.
