Major slow down...

Well I have to say that I’m pretty worried about the performance of rev. I had 80 people on my web page and it used 80% of my dedicated servers CPU. The connector for the gallery used 10% alone.

Has anyone found a crazy amount of resources being used up with rev? My dedicated server has a dual core pentium, 4gb ram.

I’m using Rev 2.0.5 PL(traditional), php.ini memory settings are set to 250mb.

I don’t have any snippets cached or pages, should I do that? I pretty much have rev at the default settings for most things. Things were fine till about 90 people hit the site in one go and the server processes was taken completely up by the modx index.php file. Even now that there’s no one on the site and I try saving documents in the manager it’s very slow.

there is 6 instances of that file in a row all using anything from 5-6% of the cpu.

I have updated my server software and it hasn’t helped any.

PHP Version 5.3.4

Mysql 5.1.51

What else should I check or provide to get to the bottom of this?

What HTTP server are you using, do you have other sites on the server, and you have everything you can cached right?

I have other sites on the server, only 2 using rev. I have not got anything cached right now but that should not cause this kind of CPU usage when only 1 person loads the page.

I’m loading a page that I can only see and it spikes to 100% sometimes. Seems that some pages that use the rev gallery/connector or phpthumb seem to cause bigger issues.

What do you mean by HTTP server?

My support team is suggesting it’s something to do with mysql_pconnect as it’s a persistent connection to the DB? Would this be right?

The http server would be something like apache or iis.

Cache as much as you can, that should help a lot. Use caches calls [[.....]] vs uncached [[!...]] should help.

Can you tell us more about the site, what snippets are you using and such. Having the other sites on the server eliminates a few thing, but it sill shouldn’t tax the server that much.

If you want I’ll be happy to look things over and give more specific suggestions.

It’s an apache server.

I think there is something further wrong than modx. I have a wordpress site on there and it’s been hitting 50% for some reason. I really have no idea what is going on with the server.

The support team has tried everything. I’ll keep this thread updated if and when I manage to sort it out. I initially thought it was modx Rev as I checked the process manager on the server and it was hitting 100%. I should of checked the other sites but just instantly assumed it was rev.

+1 for maximum caching. I set all of my Wayfinder menu snippets as cached. That alone reduces loading time by as much as 50% or more.

Wordpress doesn’t do any caching by default either. You should always cache unless there’s very specific reasons to not do so, or as you have found out, you run into scaling issues.
