    the installing went good,
    the set up was fine.

installing a new template was .. yuck.!
and theres something poorly in the way its saving files, its taking........................................ forever.
or its not and the window isnt closing.

just checked its the window not closing.
    but the template isnt working

    manual... 6/10 ...

apart from that, its ....... errrrr ... ok

as a learning curve Im leaning a lot, but achieving not a lot.

If it’s your first time using MODx, I’d recommend trying Evolution (versions 1.x). It’s a lot simpler, and because it’s a bit older, there’s a lot more documentation.

I’ve worked with a LOT of different CMS’s, and I can say without hesitation that MODx offers the gold standard in template integration. Templating in Drupal for example is more like configuring Apache; in WordPress, there’s sometimes more PHP than HTML. MODx also offers very simple integration for existing PHP scripts, and a well-architected framework under the hood.

Revolution takes it all to a new level, but the learning curve can be steep, and the documentation has some catching up to do... so I recommend Evolution for your first trip to the land of MODx. It’s not deprecated: we’re just not developing new features for it.
