My client went to update site and has been unable to save page - now there is nothing on the main index / home page of the site www.elainedeed.com - on initially going into the manager the login screen looks fine, but on logging in I was met with a page with no css style and just plain text and no top bar navigation - now I try to go in (to upload a screen grab for here) and no longer have access with my normal user name & password - and can not see on the Manager login screen to send an email for forgotten password.
Think on this site I’m running MODx 1.2
Any ideas as to what next steps to take?
Do I have to hopefully make a copy of the DB and reinstall MOdx
Try to repair DB
What is the best work around
Whatr next should I check!
My Host Co emailed me this I cannot see any obvious reasons why this is not working, no error messages, I have tested the database connection details, file permissions all looks ok, are you running this software on any other accounts with us? and have there been any alterations to the software recently?
Thanks in anticipation
Like I said and you have noted - I can see the manager screen ok - but like I mentioned now it’s refusing to allow me to login and there is no "Forgot Your Password" under the Remember me box - so I can not even get in to make a screen grab of the disfunctional manager.
Hi,
I’m running 1.0.2 and I have the Forgot Password functionality. So you are probably running an older version.
The only way to reset the password is to use phpMyAdmin or a similar DB tool to reset your password.
Modx uses md5 to encrypt passwords. Create a new php file and get the output of md5(’newpassword’), than modify the password field in the modx_manager_users table.
Your symptoms suggest a problem with either .htaccess or index.php in the MODx root. See if either one looks odd. It’s possible that your site may be in the process of being hacked.
We’ve done a restore both on the DB and all files and the site is working now - should the .htaccess be 644 ?

Yep. .htaccess is typically 644.
Your symptoms sounded like maybe your config file had the wrong db password. If PHP notices are disabled, you can get the "white screen of death" on the front-end, and the manager can still show the login form.
A good thing to try in cases like that are to open up the config file in manager/includes/config.inc.php and see if you can log into the database directly using the command line or via phpMyAdmin. If the database name, username, or password are not correct or even if the server deleted or renamed your database, then the connection fails. The point is to test your DB connection independently -- leave MODx out of it first.
