Hi guys
I’m still early in my Revo experience, but I’ve done enough to get myself unduly concerned about package installation and the consistent frequency with which the ’console’ generates reams of bright red errors.
My most recent action was to attempt an upgrade of TinyMCE from 4.0.1 to 4.1.2 or something like that. Upon doing so I got a MASSIVE list of errors in the console, reporting that files couldn’t be copied because permissions were denied. Never-the-less the TinyMCE files reappeared (I tested again after uninstalling it completely) and it seems to work. But surely I shouldn’t be getting hundreds of file copy errors every time I dip a toe into the package manager...
I’ve become generally concerned about how little I seem to understand the concept of these file and folder permissions on my linux server. I’ve got 604 and 707 and 705 everywhere - not my doing - but there’s clearly some issue with permissions. I’d very much like to understand what the most appropriate permissions are for all the various common folders in a Revo installation, and perhaps which permissions might open the site up to hacking.
Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps someone can point me in the direction of existing reading material that might help.
Cheers very much indeed.
