I’ve read through the wiki, so perhaps I’m missing something here.

I’ve created a blog for my client, but the tree on the left isn’t exactly the best option for managing 100’s of posts. Is there a way/previous post dealing with how to create a custom data table from the sites content. It would be similar to the way wordpress lists it’s pages and posts, allows you to view them as a list with a filter, search etc. smiley

If you are using Evo, you can write a Module to make the table/grid.
If you are using Revo, you have to write a Custom Manager Page which
will do the same functionality as the Evo Modules...

Any documentation on achieving this functionality. I know from the wiki how to get a simple manager page, but this is a bit more advanced than that. Revo btw

Yes, I am the same, I use to do them in Evo with a Module,
but I have not advanced to CMPs yet to be able to tell you
how to make it. When I am there, in one or two weeks, I will
probably study the Batcher Component and try to copy as much
as I can... that and the docs in the wiki will probably be enough...

Yep, that’s the way to do it. There’s not very much documentation on this topic yet. I used modExtra as a starter which worked quite well as it’s not too complex. And asked zillions of questions on the Module board: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/board,178.0.html. Thanks to Shaun and Anso who answered them patiently.

Eventually the pieces come together. Then moved on to Batcher as this is a more complex component. It’s a big bonus if you’re up to speed with ExtJs, the Javascript framework used for CMP frontend.

I agree with you that the document tree is not always right when in use for a lot of content such as news portal, I also experienced similar problems and eventually replace the entire system because it is less effective to use the document tree. the old site using MODx http://arsip.jurnalparlemen.com and now uses CMS base on CodeIgniter http://www.jurnalparlemen.com

Bumping this as it’s a much needed staple part of data management.

This is from the "rethinking modx" thread.

I don’t know about anyone else, but for me the greatest drawback of modx is the menu tree.

It’s great for managing everything BUT content. I am creatinging a real estate site in modx, but i’m looking at having to ask the client to scroll through 1000’s of properties without any method of sorting etc...not good. It will probably force me onto using wp3.0 as it has custom types and taxonomies (I don’t want to do this btw tongue ) Same goes for blogs. The only way to sort data in numbers that large is in tables. And it needs to be sortable and searchable. Access to chunks, templates, files etc is brilliant. Everything in one little sidebar. No complaints there. The other though is a gripe, and is really limiting the range of clients I can offer this amazing product too.

I know this functionality can be achieved using custom manager pages, but for a designer/front end developer like myself, the task is overwhelming. It’s not my area, so I wouldn’t even know where to start. Perhaps a working tutorial to demonstrate how to do it? The docss on manager pages are written for devs who know what their way around a mvc framework like no ones business, but for someone like me who can only use the system itself and develop some snippets and here and there, it’s not really feasible.

If there was some sort of way of administrating this action, it would be so so useful. I’ve mocked up a quick idea of what I’m talking about using a screenshot from batcher at the bottom. It’s in no way a complete idea, merely food for thought for you developers - but you’ll get the jist:
