Way to synchronize a Weblink to its target's published state?

Is there a way to synchronize the published status of a Weblink or Symlink to the published status of its target resource? I’m using weblinks in menus and would love it if they could automatically disappear from the menu if the target resource is unpublished.

I’m sure there is a way, using Plugins, this could be done, but I don’t think it’s been developed yet.
