I have been trying for about a week to send a simple email with modx and it simply doesn’t work. I got it working and after about 4 mails it just stopped sending out mails. I made a simple php script to send me a mail to see if it’s not the server’s fault but that mail arrives without problems. I haven’t changed a single bit to the code and don’t get any error messages. It also doesn’t make a difference if I use smtp or not.
When I use the login addon it perfectly sends an email after registration.
I’m under the impression that the formit addon is still very buggy.
I tried SPForm and it looks a nice alternative but it also doesn’t send a single message
I really doubt it is the Formit snippet as the same person wrote both the Formit and login Addon’s.
I have used Formit on a test site. Worked using the example program out of the box. I think if it was a problem more people would be complaining.
Most people who complain struggle with getting their server to send the email not with the snippet itself.
IMHO the forums would be full of complaints if the problem lay with the snippet.
People have trouble setting up forms and doing other things that are not available at present.
I am afraid all I can suggest is you look through the Forum posts and find out how others got it rite.
Also use the example form and see if that works if you say you can send mail using PHP test email.
Then modify form a line at a time and check if working.
Hope this helps.

The problem is I have no clue what is not working the addon or something else. I tried with the examples from the docs and I can’t get that working either. I’ll give it one more final try.
I’d recommend setting the MODx SMTP System Settings and doing the example below exactly as written (without any SMTP parameters in the tag):
http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/FormIt.Example+1+-+Contact+Page
Once that’s working, you can modify it to meet your needs.
Formit now works great for me when using SMTP. Since my host doesn’t use SMTP, I just used the SMTP settings from my Gmail account. I highly recommend you try this method. Also, set SMTP in the MODx system settings, not via Formit.
May be an over-simplistic answer - but make sure you have the hooks processed in the right order - when I’ve had problems with FormIt not sending email is because I’d asked it to redirect before email.
