Hi there,
I’m completely new to Modx. My background is that I’m familiar (and have used for many years) XHMTL, CSS, PHP, JS and MySQL. I’ve previously use custom built CMS systems (PHP/MySQL) and they have been very basic. I’ve also used/developed a couple of oScommerce sites.
I understand that Modx has a good api for developers, highly customisable out of the box, friendly cms interface for content editors, excellent templating system for design implementation etc.
The question I’m unclear about is how you turn it into a ecommerce solution? I see you can integrate with FoxyCart but this costs and would you also get all the functionality that you get with oScommerce? Can you manage products etc? Does anyone have any good Modx ecommerce examples? Can you integrate with other ecommerce solutions other that FoxyCart (not that I have anything against this just wanted to know if there are other options)
Before I get too deeply into Modx I would like your feedback on this? Would Magneto be better ecommerce solution?
Cheers

I’ve built a few ecommerce solutions using FoxyCart and love it. It’s more flexible and easier to use than any other solution I know of. The key is this, everything is part of the CMS - products included. That’s not true if you install osCommerce or another solution. From the customer’s perspective, they simply create a new page like any other document when adding to the store. Based upon the template they choose (which you set up) they get new fields or options (like price, size, images, etc) through template variables.
Customers really like only having to learn one system. I have some who use coupons and discounts through FoxyCart as well.
Here’s one example:

Thanks for that. Can you do things like for example introduce attributes - so if you were selling a t-shirt you could have different colours(image change to match), sizes etc
