I’m currently working with the permissions in MODx Revo. It’s all working fine but it’s a bit hard to have a good overview. What is still available or missing.
Why not have it the old fashioned way by showing the complete list of available permissions and "check" the permissions that you need.

Or have it shown in one page and show the "current selected permission list" in the top and the other available permissions underneath.

Now you can select a permission that was already chosen and it’s unclear what is missing unless you open the pop-up window and scroll down.

I noticed that flushing the permissions and cache is not enough to have menu items appear or file trees hide.
Most of the time a user has to log out and in again into the backend to actually see the changes. With other words, they need to start a new user session.

It would be great to mention this as a standard message to Administrators.
Next to that, it would be great if the permissions would flush automatically after working with them.

My last point about the permissions:

It was not easy to find out that next to the standard list of permissions you can type in the actual "dropdown" field and create a custom permission by saving that.
Maybe it would be more "natural" and easy to work with by having a "Add new permission" button on the permissions page because I was looking for this button for 4 hours...

Yeah, it’s a trip, and I can feel your pain. The way that Revo has abstracted the objects involved in assigning permissions make it incredibly flexible, but I agree with you entirely that it can make it also incredibly confusing. There’s still plenty of room for streamlining this and updating the documentation.
