    Hello,

I have been collecting enormous amounts of files from old extras - each version adds more.

what is the recommended way to manage this? can I just delete the old version files using ftp or do I have to use the package manager?

If it’s recommended to use the package manager then the process would be?

    - select package to clean
    - select "Remove Package" make sure remove is selected
-repeat last two steps until all versions are removed
    - reinstall latest version

for FTP method can i just delete?

    /core/packages/extraoldversion/
    /core/packages/extraoldversion.zip

    Many thanks,

Don’t use FTP for this, except as a last resort because it won’t remove the package from the DB. MODx will still think the package exists.

Your first method is the correct one, but it can fail if an old package was built with a different version of Package Manager. In those cases, you can manually remove the files, manually remove all remaining resources and elements, and then, if necessary, delete the line from the transport_packages table in the DB with PhpMyAdmin. Usually, though, "force package removal" on the right-click menu for the package will clear the DB and the files. It’s important, though to delete any installed resources and elements that don’t get uninstalled automatically if you want a clean install of a newer version.
