Is Tattoo a code name for a Modx release?
Is Tattoo a replacement of ModxCMS?

    Thanks

Read the bottom of this page:
      http://opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2091&Itemid=156

This should tell you more about what the name is for. In a nutshell though, think of the name MODx as a working name for the project. Once everything is complete with the technology previews, MODx will be rebranded and released with a different name for marketing purposes (the spit and polish, so to speak). Hope that clarifies things. smiley

It’s quite likely that the domain will change...but probably not to tattoo.com since that one is taken. wink

There is much that went into the decision that I’ll be happy to discuss with you offline. PM me for the details, please.

                Ryan,

I will be sending you an email offline but it is very interesting to me to learn the background of a name.

                Thanks for replying!

I’m adding my $0.02 quite late after this discussion, but as a 11-year freelance PHP developer who just discovered MODx and for whom this is the very first CMS I’ve ever even bothered looking into and using, I have to add the fact that the MODx brand was part of what sold me. The impression that I formed within the first 5 seconds of seeing the MODx site is a large component of what propelled me to dig further. Needless to say, MODx itself and all the work that everyone has done was what clinched it for me.
So all I’m really saying is that, at least for me as a PHP developer, the current branding worked.

I got here from etomite (which I lost faith in). Found a comment about MODx, loved the name, loved the code, loved the branding. I reckon Tattoo is a word which is often mish-spelt, and represents something which is ’permanent’, and if you make a mishtake, it’s costly and painful to put right - (speaking as one who had a tattoo go wrong!).

Not really right bothered thought, to be honest. Whatever final branding is chosen / has been chosen, the ’product’ is good, and will succeed on its own merits (and obviously to the credit of the developers) smiley
