Installation issues

Hi guys,

I wanted to install modX2.0.3, but I am running into major issues.
First I got some error that a directory could not be created because of php safe_mode being on.
I created it manually, but now i always get the error

MODx had to restart the setup process as a security precaution because setup was idle for over 15 minutes. Please re-attempt running setup at this time.

This is one of the rare cases where google was not my friend.

Anyone any ideas?
Is this because safe_mode? Is it not possible to run modx with safe_mode being on?

update: I asked my hoster to turn safemode off, but the problem remains

Try deleting all the files in the core/cache/ directory except index.php. Then clear your browser cache and cookies and re-run Setup.

My macbook pro died rather suddenly, and after restoring it and unzipping an archive of the site (Revo 2.0.7) I had been working would not function properly.
I’m sure it was a permissions issue... i could not get a manager login screen, just a blank response.
I tried upgrading to the just released 2.0.8, but it didnt solve anything - I got the ’setup was idle for over 15 minutes’ message, and the prompt to retry it (which brought me to the same screen).

Deleting the entire contents of the core/cache folder remedied it - I then was able to upgrade, and everything works fine!

Glad to hear it. The main fix in 2.0.8 corrects an issue that could corrupt the cache files.

I try to remember to manually empty the cache directory before any move or upgrade. It can’t hurt, and sometimes it saves your bacon.
