Can't install 2.0.3 -- site down

I have a site with a renamed manager and a moved core.

I copied all the files from an unzipped traditional distro to the appropriate places and made sure the config.inc.php file and all four config.core.php files are correct.

Running setup gets me this:

FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

* MODx requires the PDO extension when native PDO is being used and it does not appear to be loaded.

Attempting to access the manager URL or the front end gets me this:

Fatal error: Class ’PDO’ not found in /home/domain/some-dir/core/model/modx/modx.class.php on line 361

So, it’s finding the core OK and the setup directory but for some reason can’t find the pdo class.

I have a pdo.class.php in core/xpdo -- left over from an older version, it’s not there in 2.0.3 (or anywhere else that I can see). I don’t think it’s a problem with the server environment because Setup and the Manager worked fine before the upgrade.


I’ve cleared the browser cache/cookies and I’ve manually emptied core/cache.

Did you checked if the PDO extension is loaded in your PHP config (php_pdo_mysql)?

PhpInfo shows this:

’--enable-pdo=shared’
’--with-pdo-mysql=shared’
’--with-pdo-sqlite=shared’

Got it sorted, but it took some doing. Here’s what I think I did in case it might help others.

I tried so many things that I’m not sure all of this was necessary. I was upgrading from RC-1.

Apparently, having a php.ini file without the pdo enabling references disabled pdo.

Deleting the php.ini file in the MODx directory and in public_html got me past the pdo warning. Unfortunately, it kicked my memory limit back to 32M, which may or may not have been enough.

I got the old deal of being redirected to the login page over and over, but the front end looked ok except the Wayfinder menus were missing.

I put the php.ini file back, but with directives to enable pdo. (memory_limit 64M). Did another install. Now the front end was dead and I still couldn’t log in to the Manager.

I deleted php.ini file and the files in the core/cache directory and cleared the browser cache/cookies, then I deleted the three old session System Settings (shouldn’t Setup delete them?):

session_name
session_cookie_path
session_cookie_domain

That got the front end back and I could get into the Manager -- still no Wayfinder.

In Package Management, I checked for updates to Wayfinder and was told it was up-to-date, but I could see a newer version in Download Extras. I uninstall and removed it and got the new one and the menus are back.

Lexicon strings are still messed up and some of my own snippets aren’t working, but at least I’m in.
