[OPEN] Blank page starting setup

Hi guys,

I’m trying to install on a VPS, but when I run www.domain.com/setup, i get a blank page (no debugging info, no nothing). The VPS is running a regular ’ol linux-install, PHP 5.2+, basically anything I can imagine MODx would need. Any thoughts on this?

Ok, apparently "safe_mode" was on. Might I suggest displaying this sort of "debug-info" before installation?

Also: apparently my VPS is running PHP 5.1.6. I got the warning-message, but what are the actual issues with MODx / PHP 5.1.6? I couldn’t find anything about it...

I think (if I remember correctly) that version of PHP has buggy PDO drivers, and Revo depends heavily on PDO.

Thanks Susan. So what does this mean in practice? Will i get errors, data loss? I really shouldn’t have gone with VPS, because I wouldn’t have a clue how to update PHP...

If I’m correct about this (I’m sure somebody will come slap me down if I’m wrong) MODx won’t run. Revo uses an extension to PDO, xPDO, so the bugs in the underlying PDO libraries will cause catastrophic failures.

In any case, your tech support should be able to point you to how-tos, even if you do have an unmanaged VPS.

Thanks for the links. The VPS i got is really really bare-stock. It doesn’t even have yum installed. When i try to install yum it says i need python and xmllib something, when I try to install those I get another message. So f**ing frustrating, and everytime I call them for support they say it’s a support-request, and for unmanaged VPS that means € 60,- per hour.

Ouch! That’s one reason why I’m changing from my VPS to Bluehost; my VPS is running Solaris and it’s been fun, but after a year of it I just don’t have the time and energy to maintain it like it should be. The company is really good about helping, but still...

What is your VPS running? Some version of Linux, I presume.

It’s running CentOS. Client insisted we use their hosting. First went with their regular ol’ shared, that didn’t even have json installed. When I called them up to ask if they could install it for me, considering the account didn’t have SSH, but installing extensions wasn’t allowed on their shared hosting package... Oh well, if I have to pay for it I’m just gonna forward it to client, I warned them about the risks before, and they understood that if this would cost extra time (ergo extra money) they would pay for it. Lucky we got that out of the way beforehand .
