I had a huge problem after an upgrade from an old version of MODx to the new 1.0.4. The images in the resource browser was blank. I looked everywhere to find out how the FileManager could fix this, but then I found out that if you just delete the .thumb_filename.jpg files the FileManager is kind enough to just fix it.
I hope I can save some of you out there some time.

I suspect that you are talking about the resource browser (mcpuk) rather than the file manager. The file manager is a MODx utility found under the Elements main menu item, and is a different matter altogether.
