[solved] Multilingual site - character encoding problem

Hello,
I will be developing a multilingual website for my client ( English / Polish / Russian ).
I’ve decided to do it with revo. But the problem that I’ve encountered at the very beginning is language specific characters not being displayed properly.
At the revo installation process I’ve chosen database connection charset to utf8 and collation to utf8_general_ci. I thought that this settings will handle language issues.

My settings:
Modx Revo 2.0 pl
PHP Version 5.2.9
MySql 5.0.91-community-log
database charset: utf8

Please advice me what settings should I do to handle multilingual site like this?

maybe you just have to define the charset in your HTML template:

I would get character problem in manager too, when my document get saved.

OK. I’ve found the problem ...

Modx Revo installation settings are proper - charset: utf8 and collation: utf8_genera_ci .

The problem was in my MySql table settings - it uses default latin_swidish collation setting.

What I did was:
1. Crated new database and set collation setting:

alternatively you can go to the MyPhpAdmin, open your database, go to the Operations tab, and then, at the bottom chose our collation - utf_general_ci

2. Install again modx Revo and stay with charset: utf8 and collation: utf8_genera_ci .


For You that don’t want to reinstall modx, You can use Convert Database Carset (cdc) script http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,48556.0.html. Unfortunately it needs some tweeks to works with Revolution database.
