Would it make sense to create an independent property set with the values you need and just get them from there?
Not in this case. On my site, certain resources act as "site definition" containers for all the resources beneath them. They define the site title, banner image, and several other characteristics, all of which get inherited by the rest of the descendant resources. The basic logic for any page is to 1) find the site resource 2) write each part of the page based on the directives from the site resource.
I’ve thought about using a property set with the site definition resource - but using TVs is easier to maintain.
