modx database connection fail

hi, pretty new to this, but when i try to install modx this pops up in the checks..

Creating connection to the database: Database connection failed!

and it wont install.

also when im entering the username and password under the localhost bit, i cant click the test button, it says java void.

any help would be amazing thanks!!

yeah ive looked through that but im not sure if any of that helps, unless im totally missing something.

Im using 1and1 as a web host, i had to rename the php files to php5 on some to start the install screen for modx.
My MySQL is 5.0. How do i find my URL for the data base as i think thats the issue?

There should be information on the database connection in your 1and1 control panel.

yeah ive looked but i cant seem to find anything, ive also tried installing modx evo 1.0.4 and i still get the same error. do i need to change the localhost for something else?
