duplicate TV behavior not what I'd expect

I did a "duplicate" on a TV that already was in use on several resources. I only wanted a quick way to set up a similar TV w/ same category, input type, output type & template access. I was pretty surprised that this actually copied the old TV’s value to the new TV for every resource.

Is that the intended behavior?

Also, when I deleted the duplicate TV, I had to clear cache in order to make the resources lose the value for the no-longer-existing TV. That (deleting a TV) might be a good candidate for automatically clearing cache... just a suggestion.
