We have about 10 MODx websites using 9.6...
We aren’t experiencing any issues but I want to keep our clients sites current, secure, etc.
So:
I’m not sure if we should wait for the migration tool to upgrade directly to Revolution (and when it might be available - maybe it is and I missed it?).
Or, if we should upgrade to Evolution (and then to Revolution). I’d prefer to do this in one step (migration tool) since we’re multiplying by 10.
Our plan is to upgrade in a separate hosting environment, confirm everything works and then point the DNS to the new location.
We’re hoping upgrading within Revolution will become a much simpler process (similar to Wordpress?) since this has been a stumbling block for us to date.
Thanks for your advice,
Nigel
If there is a migration tool, it will be much safer to be at the current version of Evolution when you use it, so you might as well upgrade.
If you were going to port directly to Revolution yourself (by cutting and pasting), I would say skip the upgrade to 1.0.4, but if you’re counting on a migration tool, you should stay current (and there have been important security fixes since 0.9.6).
Provisioner might help you with this
http://modxcms.com/extras/package/563 but it doesn’t do full Evolution site import yet. This has been raised several times on its support thread and it looks as though a tab is going to be added to do this for Evolution sites. Not ready yet, a few weeks away at the least.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
Thanks BoBray and Shamblett,Good advice.
I’ll go ahead and upgrade to 1.0.4. I’ve heard upgrading in MODx is pretty involved. If you can give me any pointers that would be appreciated as well.
