upgrading to revo from evo 1.0.4

ok guys have spent the better of two days scroogling, browsing these forums, and too no avail

I am having a heck of a time upgrading from evo 1.0.4

I have downloading the latest release of revo

extracted all the files to my root in my localhost as I would with an upgrade in evo,
ran setup and it couldn’t connect to the db (mysql version 5.1)
did a new install instead and then imported a backup of the db with droptables

manager shows only one page and there are no connections to my templates, snippets, chunks or tvs.

now I noticed the directory tree is different than evo, so I assumed I would be redoing links for the template and some of the extras I have would most assuredly have to be scrapped, but If I don’t have the same resource tree as my site, then I am at a loss at what to do. I suppose I would have to recreate my site page by page.

are there any tutorials for upgrading to revo from evo 1.0.4?

I am extremely scared to say the least, most of the help with the db errors and upgrades (usually from earlier beta releases of revo) haven’t really helped, I am off to double check the wiki....

Automated upgrading from Evo to Revo is not supported at this time. That said, you can brave it on your own. Here are some resources:

thank you so much splittingred,

just one more question; will evo still have security patches issued for it if they arise or has it run its course? I am thinking about just leaving my site as is for the time being until I can build a strategy for migrating or actually doing a revamp, there is just so much content now that if there is no auto upgrade then I may want to think about building a whole new site around revo.

p.s. the links mention an upcoming upgrade tool, are there any threads discussin what its features may be when released?

PPS: ok, done a quick search, understand syntax changes and such doesn’t seem toooo difficult, but where do I put my template files to reference them after adding a template in the manager?

Alright, I think I have it figured, but I still can't get wayfinder to work, installed the latest, changed the syntax according to the links provided by splitting red, but it won't show up.

here it is in evo:

[Wayfinder? &startId=`2` &level=`2` &parentClass=`hide` &parentRowTpl=`xparent` &outerTpl=`xoutter` &innerTpl=`xinner` &rowTpl=`xrow` &outerClass=`menu`]

and now in revo

[[Wayfinder? &startId=`2` &level=`2` &parentClass=`hide` &parentRowTpl=`xparent` &outerTpl=`xoutter` &innerTpl=`xinner` &rowTpl=`xrow` &outerClass=`menu`]]

as you can see that I just added the brackets and made changes to the placeholder syntax in the menu’s templates accordingly. all my css is just fine, the page template is fine and either I wait for ajaxsearch to come online in the extras repos or I customize splittingred’s simple search, seems all ok, just wayfinder isn’t being nice. any suggestions?

p.s. dunno what’s going on with the insert code function the tags are in the right place but they seem to be wrapping the first sentence as well when I post or preview
