I did a fresh install.
Setup went fine. No errors what so ever.
Core/cache is writeable and user httpd did add some directory in there.
Problem is that the manager keeps giving a 503 error.
Seems that this should be related to the cache but it all seems fine.
I did change the configkey, and there is a folder with that name created in the cache directory as well.
It has 644 permissions, but as a FTP user (server account) I don’t have permissions to change those to 777.
What is the problem here?
Update: Solved. Don’t change the configkey!
Do see this in the error logs (in the core/cache/configkey/log directory):
