Moving site from local installation to webserver

Hi,

I experience some problems moving my local site to the webserver; the Wiki-Post Moving Site To Another Location is for Evolution; for Revolution I was not able to find anything adequate neither in the forums nor in the documentation (if not exists: perhaps it would be a good idea to take a chapter into the docs?).

Ok - here is what I did.

I developed a fully running site with MODx 2.0.0-pl locally on my Mac (with MAMP-server).
1) Uploaded everything via ftp to my webserver.
2) Dumped the database and insertet it into the database on my webserver.
3) Opened core/config/config.inc.php on the webserver and changed the database-settings; also replaced every paths in this document with the right ones (e.g. "/Users/myname/Sites/modxdev/" to "/var/www/client4/html/migration/").
4) in phpmyadmin replaced in table "modx_workspaces" the path "Users..." with the webserverpath (like in pt 3)
5) opened core/cache/mgr/actions.cache.php and replaced the paths (as in pt. 3).
6) changed to 777: core/cache, core/packages, core/export (also tried my new root-folder set to 777, but this changes nothing)

Now the frontend loads but without dynamic content, just the template. The manager just shows a blank, white page.

I am helpless because I did it the same way with another site (migrated rc1 to a webserver) and it worked.

Is there any hint or help for me?

try completely emptying core/cache/

mh, nothing changes. some folders are generated in the core/cache, but the manager still ist blank.

check your /manager/config.core.php
(or run a file search on *.php and your old local path)

run /setup again, it might resolve this (at least it used to in RC versions)

ok, oori,

running the setup on the webserver turned out to fix this; when i started the setup i got some error because safe_mode was on. when i switched it off i could do the install and it now seems to be fixed. i still don’t know if perhaps the safe_mode also is responsible for the error. anyway: it works, thank you all for your help!

as you see the way I moved my site is very unelegant and complicated, I am sure there are much more easier ways. So I would suggest to add a short description to the documentation, e.g. als part of the chapter "installation". I wrote a request in the thread "what documentation/tutorials would you like to see".
