Up-to-date how to write a 'plugin' tutorial

I have the need to extend my modx installation with some additional tables and management pages for those tables. I don’t need to go to the trouble of having this as a distributable package but it is important that it is structured and layered to the correct standard to ensure modx update compatibility.

Where can I find an up-to-date tutorial and/or examples on how to do this?

That’s great, thanks Shaun. In the tutorial it recommends using the SVN model and building a package to do the install to ensure compatibility for future upgrades which I certainly want to use.

However I can’t find anything explaining how to build a package. The link at

Also how to include the custom manager stuff in the package would be great.

Probably your best bet is to go look at the Doodles Extra, a demo Extra for Revo, and how it does it:
