Installing Modx Revo on Debian Etch 4.0

Hi,

I’m having trouble solving this issue:
I have a Debian Etch 4.0 server where I want to install my Modx Revolution new site. The thing is Debian Etch runs PHP 5.2.0-8 (with 8 Debian patch).
When I run the setup, it blocks because this version of PHP is not supported. And my manager page is still blank (is there a link?).
I cannot upgrade Debian to another version (Lenny) and I’m unable to use apt-get to upgrade PHP because it’s blocked by Debian.

Anyone knows a way around this? If not I’m in big trouble...

We simply cannot support that version of PHP with Revolution. It really is not a stable release of PHP and the specific bugs with PDO encountered in that release have so far been insolvable.

You might want to try DotDeb.

You mean I add DotDeb to my apt sources and then I just type: apt-get install php5.2.12 and it should work?

It should yes, or you may want to download the .deb file and install it (i guess using apt is better for the dependencies).
Check http://www.dotdeb.org/instructions/

Or if you feel it, you can always php for the source

Unfortunately I think dotdeb does not offer support for PHP5.3 on Etch...

As soon as I have access to the server, I’ll try to install PHP5.2.12 . I’ll keep you updated.
