Problem Creating Directories

Hi - I have just recently installed modx revo and am new to it so it is quite likely that this is user error or lack of understanding of what I am doing, but when I select the files tab in the manager, right click to create a new directory (in the assets folder), it appears to work OK but I can’t see the created directory - even if I refresh tree. If I go out to the finder I can see the directory, but it won’t let me put anything in it, saying I don’t have permissions. If I try and create another of the same name within the modx manager it says I can’t because a directory of that name already exists, but it refuses to show me it - so I can’t put anything in it.

If I try to create and populate the directory outside of the manager (in finder) it doesn’t show me the option to create the directory.

I have just done a standard install and not changed any permissions except those that are stipulated in the install doc.

I’m on a macbook osx 10.6.3 and I’m running modx on a local mamp pro.

I’m trying to port an existing site into modx and want to create directories in the assets folder to put css, images, js in.

I’m not that conversant with unix style file permissions but I am getting the impression I might need to be...

Add these settings and values:

new_file_permissions - 0664
new_folder_permissions - 0775

Sounds like your umask value isnt setup right.

1. You say add these settings and values - but to where when and how? Are you saying I need to mod the permissions anytime I create a folder or is there somewhere where I can set the default?

2. What’s a umask value and how can I tell if it is setup right?

I’m sure you’re a busy man - but if you could just point me in the right direction

Those are the defaults - when I say settings, I mean in the System Settings grid. Just add them with those keys and values.

Opengeek might be able to help you a bit more, but this usually means that your PHP server either:
a) doesnt have permissions to create directories
b) isnt setup so that new directories default to at least readable status, or writable status by their owner
c) is on some sort of secure setup where creating directories is verboten

Thanks - I added those values to the system settings grid and now behaving as I would expect. Haven’t had to mess with umask value thus far...
