Is this the same as tree_root_id only for the file tree? Is it a setting?

added file-specific permissions for ACLs

Could you clarify this? Does it mean that there are new permissions relating to things like read/write/rename on the Files tree tab?

(At first, I thought it meant ACL entries relating to specific files.)

Yes, specific permissions:

file_list, file_manager, file_remove, file_update (rename), file_upload, file_view
directory_chmod, directory_create, directory_list, directory_remove, directory_update (rename)

Now I’m more confused. How does the tree_root_id setting (which contains Resource ID numbers) restrict access in the *Files* tree?

Did you mean Resources tree?

Or is there now a filemanager_path user setting that takes a path and works *like* tree_root_id, but for the Files tree?

Oops, I misunderstood you. tree_root_id is for the Resources tree only.

filemanager_path lets you specify the root path for a user to see on the Files tree (or in the MODx Browser).

I’m assuming that filemanager_path works as a user setting also.

Any System Setting can be a User Setting (or a Context Setting) since User Settings just override System ones.
